Science has its own swag and the best part of being from science background is that all fields are open to you; be it commerce or humanities! One of the most prevalent fields to opt after school for science backgrounders is the field of engineering.
To all the aunties and uncles who say, "Humara beta/beti Engineer banegi:'D ", let's ask them- why does your engineer opt for MBA after spending important years of their lives struggling with engineering?!
We all know that Engineering is not everyone's cup of tea. If you're not seriously dedicated to your field then you might end up as one of the two idiots!
Before students take up engineering they do not really have a clear idea as to what they will be learning for the next four years and so it is quite possible that students lack interest what they learn in their fields or are not satisfied from what their fields have to offer. Also some people have the art of being able to co-ordinate well with their colleagues and so it is natural for people who are good leaders to take up MBA after graduation.
There are a lot of engineering institutes in India where students do not get placed in their campus interviews and in fact many colleges don't have even any companies coming to their colleges to hire students and so it is a good option for such students to go for MBA over technical post graduation since the demand of technical posts is not as wide as that of managerial posts, hence MBA. And finally for those students who want to be entrepreneurs, MBA is really helpful as it would instil in them the skills that are required to manage employees and to get the best out of them. So I guess these are some of the chief reasons for engineers to take up MBA after graduation.
At the end, we would just say DON'T FOLLOW THE HERD. Pursue your passions, do whatever you think is in the benefit of your career but don't waste the precious years of your life making someone else's predictions true about your career.
Best of luck for your future :)
