A good news for all science aspirants out there! Their dream destination IISC Bangalore (Indian Institute Of Sciences) stands at the 5th position among the top best universities in the BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa).

As published by the Quacquarelli Symonds, London, this is the first time for any Indian Educational Institute to break such a record of 10 best global universities after a lot of effort and continuous hard work of the members and students associated with IISC. In the last five years it has seen 104 per cent increase in under-graduate students, 112 per cent increase in post-graduate students and 147 per cent increase in distance - education students. There is 156 per cent increase in the number of research papers published in International journals

This is the matter of pride and honor for our educational system where in past few years we have been placed in the Top best 100 universities but in Top 10 for the first time. As with the world rankings, the academic and employer reputation surveys account for half of the weighting of the various indicators although here the academic survey gets 30% instead of 40% and the employer survey 20% instead of 10%.The other six indicators are Faculty Student Ratio (20%), Staff with PhD (10%), Papers per Faculty (10%), Citations per Paper (5%), International Faculty (2.5%) and International Students (2.5%).

The first three places are held by Tsinghua University, Peking University and Fudan University with Lomonosov Moscow State University in fourth place.

The top levels of these rankings are dominated by China which has 21 universities in the top 50, while Brazil and India have nine each, Russia seven and South Africa four.

The success of Chinese universities is in large part driven by their strong showing in the two surveys. They take six out of the top ten spots for the academic survey and five out of ten for the employer survey.
