Whenever we talk of women, we speak of helplessness, weakness and impotence. But there is a group who saw women differently, who observed their perennial potential and strength to become entrepreneurs.

This group is a bunch of college students who are members of Enactus, Sri Guru Gobind Singh College of Commerce.

The Approach to Amber

Project Amber is a two-dimensional approach towards a better society. The project, on one hand, aims towards encouraging underprivileged women of India whereas on the other hand strives for making the best out of regular waste denims.

Enactus is trying to seek these objectives by organizing denim drives and collecting denim wastes that can be recycled. The next step in the process is to contact various women NGOs to give an employment opportunity to needful women and providing them with all the necessary raw materials such as good quality threads, paints, zips, etc. so that they can work in an effective and efficient manner. Finally selling the finished pouches and making these women earn a living solves the purpose of the project. The product being denim bags creates huge demand among students and cultural events, fetes, fests etc. organized by schools and colleges prove to be the best markets to attract these buyers.

Freedom is the State of Mind

"The roadmap was never so smooth", commented Rishabh Goyal (President, Enactus SGGSCC) while explaining the major problem they have faced in implementing the project. He added, "The community we have targeted is quite stubborn, they are never willing to move out of their domain. Their reluctance to work was the major hindrance. Eventually, with proper training and personal interactions we were able to overcome this problem. Target based production was all what was required. Now we just notify the NGO, the number of products we need in the specified time and it is their discretion that how many labourers do they want to employ for the same.”

Key to Success

Driven by the famous quote- ‘If you want something done, ask a woman’, Enactus SGGSCC is now on stage. Enactus believes that they could not have achieved success without the weighty cooperation of NGO women. Rishabh points out “Women suggest splendid ideas and approaches which has boosted our sales”.
Project Amber – Long Way to Go

Every project starts with the motive to earn long term profits and growth. Sustainability of project is always a major concern.

Here under Amber, the best bunch of women is selected from various NGOs to help them become small entrepreneurs and are adequately trained in marketing, inventory management and bookkeeping. By directly linking woman to the seller eliminates the role of middlemen, thus creating shorter supply chain and better profits.

Enactus SGGSCC implemented Project Amber to help women associated with NGOs earn a livelihood and help them become independent to lead a life of dignity and hopefully they'll achieve the same very soon as a result of their persistent efforts.
