Notification

A Kolkata college has been forced to attempt a cover-up after it ordered women students to wear "full-length trousers" and "skirts well below knee-length without slits."

And let us tell you this is not any other college, Scottish Church College is considered to be one of the premier higher education institutes of West Bengal and has even been given the status of College with Potential for Excellence, a quality rating by the University Grants Commission.

The faculty of the Scottish Church College, famous for its courses in Arts, said today, after annoyed students protested that the dress code put up in notices on campus was a recommendation and not mandatory.

"Clothing worn to the college should reflect the seriousness and importance of the learning environment. Therefore, students' attire is expected to be based on modesty, neatness and safety on the campus," said what's now being described as an advisory.

Male students were told to skip earrings of all sorts.

"This is clear infringement of the students' liberty. Such a diktat reflects the college's authoritarian attitude," said educationist Pabitra Sarkar.

Well, if such is the condition of “Premier Educational Institutes” of the nation we need to give a thought on the direction towards which our education system is going.
