Spice of the entertainment news these days is the American serial Game of Thrones. It's a fantasy drama series created by David Benioff and D.B.Weiss. As the name suggests the series is about planning, plotting and fighting for conquering the Iron throne.

David Benioff and D.B.Weiss have adopted the series from the novel “A Song Of Ice and Fire” by George R.R. Martin which has turned out to be the most expensive as well as controversial series of television, attracting a number of viewers on HBO and has obtained exceptionally broad and active international fan base. So let’s find out why Game of Thrones is so popular and most viewed series…

The series is set on fictional continents of Westeros and Essos. Nine noble families fight for the control of the mythical land of Westeros after the king Robert Baratheon’s death. The conflict between the family of the Starks, the Lannisters, the Baratheons, the Targaryens with the remaining families Grejoy, Tully, Arryn, Tyrell and Martell leads to full-bore war.

The three major plots of the series are:

  • Conspiracy and court politics in the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros with particular emphasis on the Stark and the Lannister families.

  • In Essos, Daenerys Targaryen (Khaleesi or Mother of Dragons) making an attempt to reclaim the throne as being the first generation descendant i.e. heir of the throne.

  • In the icy North, Jon Snow, the bastard son of Eddark Stark, joins the Night’s Watch which is dedicated to protect the seven kingdoms from the dangers (White Walkers) behind the Wall.

Amidst the war and political confusion, all that stands between is the realms of men and icy horrors beyond. The series interweaves the above mentioned plots along with other various plots with a broad ensemble cast.

Game of Thrones is being appreciated for its several interweaving fictional plots. Many critics have given a positive response to the show but of course criticism is unavoidable. Being a family drama yet targeting women as a sex object has been portrayed, resultantly creating a ring of criticism around it. Female nudity and sexual interventions depicted against women have become a major highlight of the show. Patriarchal society has always overpowered the female section of the highlighted continents and eventually, gave a picture about how women are mere sex objects to attain Power, Politics and Potency.

Considering the above, sexual interaction between Jamie and Cersei Lannister, who are siblings, is actually bizarre and obscene to believe. Like them, there are more relations which can’t be termed anything but are sexually oriented. Compromising the self-esteem, compromising on your sexuality, planned and sudden deaths (murders) render nothing but an image of Greed and Lust of Kings, Queens and Lords of the Seven Kingdoms; fighting for the throne, acquiring states. Some are in search of real love, while some just need freedom. The unisexual approach towards every character of the show is the actual limelight.

Game of Thrones has managed to create a spell over a large number of audiences, acquiring a huge plot of viewers worldwide. The show has witnessed a hike of 300% in TRP, when the last episode of Season 5 came out.
