Delhi University will be announcing its first cut-off list on 25th June for this year’s undergraduate admissions, putting all those who are new to this process in a tiff of thoughts for choosing the right college. Hence we, through this article, would provide you with some key criteria that you ought to look upon for while making a choice for your college.

1. The Most Common Phase – Course Matters

Majority of students don’t really get a choice for college because they prefer to settle down for their choice of course. Often, we’re told to avoid a herd mentality; but this time we say “Follow the Herd” and go for your preferred course. Grab any college in which you’re getting the course you want to pursue. Eventually, in subsequent cut-offs or by migration next year, you may get a decent college too.

2. No more “What’s in a Name?”

Once you get into DU, you’ll surely realize one thing that THERE’S A LOT TO A NAME. We may never admit this harsh truth (I’m writing this on behalf of not so renowned off-campus colleges’ students) but the fact remains that Campus Colleges have this undefined repute attached to them that off campus colleges still haven’t been able to match. So, if I have to recommend between a campus and an off-campus college, I would say if you’re getting a campus college with the course you want to move ahead with, just go for it.

3. Feasibility Needs to be Counted

Although this shouldn’t be a priority but it must be kept in mind while making a choice for the right college. For example, if you are a Lajpat Nagar IV resident and you’re getting the course you wish to pursue in Lady Shri Ram College and Daulat Ram College, a wise choice would be to choose LSR because though DRC is a campus college, travelling 2 hours daily for DRC would be illogical when you’re getting an equally renowned college (or may be a bit more) at max. 15 minutes distance from your home.

4. Every College has its USP

All colleges, though are a part of the same university, are diverse from each other in every aspect and are bringing forward their legacies since several decades. For example, Sri Venkateswara College is famous for its Science Department since many years. Similarly, Delhi College of Arts and Commerce is renowned for its Bachelors in Journalism and Mass Communication course and the college has produced some big names of the industry.

5. All Except the Name

Whenever one thinks of a college a huge building made of red marbles comes into mind, isn’t it? Next thing what one visualizes is some fashionistas roaming in the college corridors and a handsome guy in the garden with a guitar hanging around his neck (All thanks to these fanciful Bollywood movies I tell you!). Well, though most of what’s mentioned above is illusionary, you can expect a well-built infrastructure, a combination of both classy and massy crowd and growth opportunities in extra-curricular activities from every college of the university.

NOTE: Faculty should never ever be a choice criterion because faculty standards are same throughout the university and it keeps on rotating too.

6. Grab a seat – First Cut-off might be the Last Chance

Every year we come across many students who don’t occupy a seat in any college in first cut-off, expecting that they’ll get the college they want in the upcoming cut-offs and end up empty handed when cut-offs are closed in both the colleges i.e. the college they could get in and the one they were expecting. Thus, if you don’t want to get stuck in a similar situation, RESERVE YOUR SEAT IN THE FIRST CUT-OFF.

Conclusively, I would say that we can just give you an idea about probable circumstances; at the end you have to deal with your peculiar situation. But yes I assure you one thing that we will always be there to assist you throughout the admission process.

Best of luck!
